The Songkran festival is possibly the main event of the year in Thailand. The
traditional sprinkling of water has developed into veritable water wars, though
it is a war "fought" with broad smiles and much joy. In the days the
festival is on you will get wet, unless you choose to hide out from the fun
in a hotel room.
After dark the water splashing stops, exept in a few spots where foreigners
dominate the game. This picture was taken on the outskirts of Chiang Mai. In
the center of town main roads are blocked by Songkran revellers all through
the day.
